The festival started off with a morning rally and road show by the students and teachers of the Village Model School and other local school. Various cultural and extracurricular activities were organized during this four day long Shishu utsav. Besides, students of Village Model School, children from other local schools in Udaynarayanpur and adjoining blocks of Howrah and Hooghly districts participated in Inter-School competitions in painting, Yogasana, martial Arts, singing, recitation dance and debate. The winners were felicitated with medals and certificates. To make the villagers more aware, employees of VFS staged musical and theatrical performances which highlighted many social issues like child labour, women empowerment, Save girl child (Betibachao), Swachh Bharat, safe driving, over indebtedness, abandoning parents in old age etc. in the form of light comedy to generate collective consciousness. Apart from that, the efforts of few women entrepreneurs, who took multiple assistances and became successful entrepreneurs, were recognised.
VWS of Village Group designed and initiated the Scholarship program in the financial year 2006-2007 for deserving children of poor families to encourage them to go for higher studies and make a difference in their lives. We at Village Group encourage such talents to grow by assisting them monetarily.
All the development activities are carried out through our group organization V .W .S (Village Welfare Society).
Educations are essential to ensure better quality of life for all children and a better world for all people. We at Village Group feel every child has the fundamental right to a quality basic education, which helps the children, their families and their communities to break the cycle of poverty, ignorance, exploitation and social custom that perpetuates the worst form of child labor. VWS has been running the “Village Model School” for the children in Howrah District. The specific problem area being addressed by this project is the way of growing up of little children from the families below poverty line, who generally do not have accessibility to the schools. Due to low level of awareness and motivation the children were not admitted to the schools and used to grow up in such an environment which in many cases led them to become anti- social elements.
We at Village Group put these poor kids in the school where pre-primary to primary level education is given up to class IV. Supplementary nutrition, regular health checkup and required medical support, entertainment with playing materials are also provided to the children. Our project motivates the parents to admit their children in high schools and educate them for better future.
