Mr Ajit Kumar Maity

Mr Ajit Kumar Maity is the chairman of Village Financial Services Ltd. A graduate in Arts from Calcutta University, Mr Maity has worked in microfinance since 1995 after having started with an NGO in 1978. He is the pioneer of microfinance in eastern India and has helped change the lives of thousands of poor families.

Besides being the founder-member of Village Financial Services, he is also the founder-member of a couple of networks of microfinance institutions such as Sa-Dhan and the Association of Micro Finance Institutions West Bengal and has been associated with Village Welfare Society, a social development organization, as a founder member secretary, since 1978. He is also one of the directors of Village Bazaar Pvt Ltd.

A compassionate social entrepreneur, he has been working incessantly for the socio-economic uplift of impoverished people as well as in education, healthcare, old-age care, social and economic empowerment, food and livelihood security, water and sanitation, disaster management, management and risk reduction and vocational training.

Mr Kuldip Maity

Mr Kuldip Maity is the MD and CEO of Village Financial Services. His academic background of being a doctorate coupled with a Masters in Business Administration and another in social work reflects in his leadership in VFS, where he drives the mandate of ensuring that the organization gives priority to the alleviation of poverty in rural India, especially among women.

Mr Maity is associated with various associations of microfinance in India such as Sa-Dhan, AMFI West Bengal and Micro Finance Institutions Network or MFIN. He has been on the board of Sa-Dhan, is a founder member of AMFI West Bengal, and is the assistant secretary of Village Welfare Society, West Bengal.

He is a dedicated social worker and has been working for over two decades for the poor to bring cheer in their lives and a smile on their lips. He has received numerous awards for his work.

Dr Sankar Datta

Dr Sankar Datta is an independent director of Village Financial Services. A doctorate in economics from Ballabh Vidyanagar, Dr Datta has been working for more than three decades to promote the livelihoods of the poor by linking them to various value chains and supporting them through microfinance.

He brings a unique blend of practice and academics that enables him to make theories work on the ground and enrich the theory from experience.

He did the project closure report of a World Bank project in Odisha and also various consultancy assignments for the International Finance Corporation and Food & Agriculture Organisation, etc.

He took part in drafting the 12th Five-Year Plan of the then Planning Commission and is a member of the Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation of Chhattisgarh Planning Commission.

Ms Jayshree Vyas

Ms Jayshree Vyas, a chartered accountant by profession, is an independent director of Village Financial Services.

Besides being the Managing Director of Shri Mahila Sewa Sahakari Bank Ltd and Promoter Director in Sewa Grih Rin Ltd, she is also a managing trustee in Indian School of Microfinance for Women, Ahmedabad, a trustee and Chair of Mahila Housing Trust, a director in Equitas Holding Ltd, Friends of Women’s World Banking, Ananya Finance for Inclusive Growth Pvt Ltd, Sewa Trade Facilitation Centre, and VimoSEWA, among others.

She has helped introduce an integrated micro-insurance scheme for women working in the informal sector, the first such in India. She has also devised housing finance schemes for poor women and savings groups of poor women in Gujarat. In 2006, under her leadership, Sewa Bank introduced a Micro Pension Scheme.

Dr T.K. Mukhopadhyay

Dr T.K. Mukhopadhyay is an independent director of Village Financial Services. A doctorate from the University Of Calcutta, he did the three-tier Management Development Program at IIM, Ahmedabad.

He retired as the Chief General Manager and Country Head of IDBI Bank after a career of over 30 years. He has been the first branch head at Gangtok, GM of Jaipur branch office, and CGM, zonal head for east and north-east. He has experience in corporate finance, MSME, business development and rehabilitation of sick units. He has also provided faculty support to the training institute of IDBl Bank and RBI Training Institute at Mumbai.

He has been an independent director on the Board of Sangam Ltd, North Eastern Development Financial Corporation (NEDFi), and Srei Mutual Fund Asset Management Pvt Ltd.

Mr Pradipta Kumar Jena

Mr Pradipta Jena is a former Regional Director of the Reserve Bank of India, having served it for 35 years from 1984 to 2019, in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. His exposure includes areas of general banking, foreign exchange, currency management, bank and non-bank supervision, rural development, HR and payment systems, with a special interest in rural development and microcredit.

Mr Amarjit Chopra

Mr Amarjit Chopra is a highly-acclaimed Chartered Accountant with more than 43 years of experience. He is a senior partner of GSA & Associates, Chartered Accountants, New Delhi. He was the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India during 2010-11, the Chairman of Union government’s National Advisory Committee on Accounting Standards for four years till September 2018. He has been nominated by the Union government on Bench-II of the ICAI’s disciplinary committee for four years from 2018 to 2022. He has also been nominated as a member of the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority. He has chaired several important committees that dealt with auditing and accounting standards, corporate governance and banking at the national level and IFAC, CAPA and SAFA at the international level. He has also served as vice-chairman of the high-powered committee of ICAI that examined the Satyam Computer Services fraud and investigated several other matters during his career as a professional auditor.
