Soma Das is an inhabitant of Palpara village of Sipahijala district, Tripura. Her husband was the only earning member of the family. He is a driver by profession but her husband’s income was too small to maintain the family consisting of his wife, two children and his mother. A few years ago, it was too hard to run the family with the low income of her husband. She was worried about meeting family expenses and kept thinking about the future of her children. In this situation, she was planning to start a income-generating activities on her own to improve the financial condition of her family and wanted to launch a small business of making fishing tramps from bamboo. But, due to insufficient funds she could not do it. It was at that point of time she came to know about VFS from one of her neighbors and came to our Melaghar branch. She then joined a JLG named Lakhi, promoted by VFS. Initially, she took a loan of Rs 10,000 to start her business. Now her business has improved. At present, she is planning to take the 2nd cycle loan from VFS to purchase bulk raw materials for her business. Thus, the income of the family is growing by the day. She has now repaired her home and her son is going to a kindergarten school. She is also planning send her daughter to school. Soma Das has now bought many durable goods for the family. She also saves money for the future of her children and the family. She is very thankful to Village for supporting her when her chips were really down. Now, she is a happy and a confident woman.
